Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Eight months after the rape and murder of junior doctor Abhaya at RG Kar Medical College, members of the Joint Forum of Doctors and Abhaya Manch staged a protest in front of the CGO Complex in Salt Lake demanding justice. The demonstrators marched to the CBI office and held a sit-in protest, alleging inaction in the investigation. They demanded a speedy probe and the immediate filing of a supplementary chargesheet. The protestors claimed that despite repeated appeals, no substantial progress has been made in the case and justice has not been served.
Following the protest, a delegation entered the CGO Complex and met with officials at the CBI office to submit a memorandum. The group raised concerns over the CBI’s delay in filing a supplementary chargesheet and questioned the pace of the investigation. They stated that there had been visible inaction on part of the investigators. Protesters also accused the CBI of negligence and called for immediate steps to ensure progress in the case.
